Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso Review

The Insider Score

Powder blushes
4.6out of 5

A peach blush that catches the light when you turn.

Luminoso makes sense when you want colour and highlight in the same place. One soft sweep puts peach on the upper cheek with enough sheen to leave a separate highlighter in the drawer.

I liked Luminoso for peach colour with a little light on the cheek.

The peach is the point

Milani Luminoso is the blush I’d reach for when a pink cheek feels too cool and a sweep of bronzer feels too brown. It puts peach on the cheek with a sheen that shows as you turn towards the light. With a little mascara and a warm lip, that’s enough colour for the face. It also explains why Luminoso has kept its name recognition in a drawer full of newer blushes.

This review covers the current 0.12 oz Baked Blush compact. Milani also sells Baked Bronzer in nearly identical round packaging. Both have a gold rim and a clear lid. The two useful things to read through that lid are Baked Blush and the shade name on the label. Luminoso supplies peach colour as well as reflection, which is the difference you’ll see once the compact is out of sight.

Place the light where you want it

Run a soft cheek brush lightly over the pan, tap off excess and touch it to the upper part of the cheek. Start there if you usually wear highlighter. You can carry what’s left on the brush towards the centre of the cheek for colour without building a second bright patch. At this stage I’d turn sideways to a window before deciding on another sweep.

If the peach looks lovely but the cheek reads a little too shiny, use less powder and keep it to a smaller area. Alternatively, sweep Luminoso over the top edge of a matte blush as a finishing touch. That trick gives a deeper base shade a peach shift and leaves the strongest reflection up on the cheekbone.

Which cheek gets the better buy?

At a regular $12.99, Luminoso is an easy way to get a blush and a soft highlight from the same brush. I’d choose it over essence Rose All Day for a peachier result. Someone looking for a cool, clear pink will get closer to that colour with Dior Rosy Glow 001.

If you’re replacing an old favourite, compare the current compact size before treating a very low price as an exceptional deal. The appeal is still the way this particular peach lights up on the face. That’s what I’d buy it for again.
