Information read from a page

The extension reads public product text and structured page information, including the current URL, page title, product name, brand, category, price, ingredient sections and relevant visible offer text. This website content and browsing context are used to recognise a beauty product, explain recognised ingredients, and identify relevant codes.

It does this after you invoke the extension on the current page, or automatically on a supported shop for which you have granted website access. If you paste an ingredient list, that text is processed locally too. The extension does not upload product-page content, pasted lists or the visited page URL to Insider Beauty or an ingredient-analysis service.

The scanner excludes recognised checkout, basket, login, account, order and payment routes. It does not access form field values, request passwords or payment details, read browser history through a history API, or fill or submit checkout forms. Product sections can contain surrounding page text, which is inspected locally. The extension retains bounded product details, ingredient text, relevant offers and the temporary page context needed to keep results current.

What stays on your device

Current scan results, including the page context needed to show them, are kept in browser session storage. The retained page URL has its query string and fragment removed. Temporary tab and document identifiers, plus a one-way hash of the current URL, prevent an old result being shown after the page changes. This bookkeeping stays on your device. Results for a tab are cleared when it loads a new page or closes. Pasted ingredient lists stay in the panel's memory while it is open. These data are not sent to our servers.

The downloaded public offers list is also cached in browser session storage. Copies less than 15 minutes old can be reused; an older copy is replaced on the next successful offers request. Chrome clears session storage when the browser session ends or the extension is disabled, reloaded or updated.

The extension stores your chosen shopping country in Chrome's local extension storage. This setting remains until you clear it or uninstall the extension. It is not synced to an Insider Beauty account. Chrome manages the website permissions you grant separately.

The extension does not create an account, store a browsing-history log, use analytics, or load remote product images. Its scripts, styles, fonts and ingredient reference data are packaged with the extension.

Checking Insider Beauty offers

When you click Check Insider Beauty offers or Check offers again, the extension uses a recent session-cached copy or requests our public offers feed at insiderbeauty.com over HTTPS. It downloads the same list for all users. It does not send your current product URL, page content, ingredient list, shop name, country setting or account cookies with that request. Offers are matched to supported shops and your selected country on your device.

Like any network request, the connection exposes ordinary technical information, including your IP address and request/browser information, to our hosting and security providers. Vercel serves the feed, and Neon hosts the published offer records. The endpoint does not create a visitor profile or write a product-browsing record. Operational logs may be processed and retained by our providers to deliver and protect the service; this policy does not promise that a network request is anonymous.

The public feed can be cached for up to 15 minutes. An offer's terms, expiry and retailer restrictions still apply. The extension does not test or apply a code at checkout.

Codes, commissions and external links

Some codes may earn Insider Beauty a commission. Copying a code is optional; no links or cookies are replaced. The extension does not silently add affiliate attribution to your shopping session.

If you choose to open a source, support, privacy or other website link, that website receives the normal information associated with your visit and applies its own privacy policy. Visiting insiderbeauty.com is covered by our website privacy policy, including the site's analytics and support forms. The extension itself does not load the website's analytics script.

Permissions and your controls

• Current page access: Chrome's activeTab and scripting permissions let the extension scan the page after you invoke it.
• Optional shop access: You can enable automatic detection for supported shops and revoke that website access in Chrome's extension settings.
• Storage: Local settings and temporary session state keep the extension usable across its panel and background worker.
• Side panel: The panel shows ingredient explanations and offer information alongside a product page.
• Insider Beauty website access: This permits the public offers request when you choose to check it.

You can scan pages manually without enabling automatic detection. In extension settings, Clear data & turn off all shops clears the country setting, session results, pasted list and offers cache, and revokes automatic shop access. To stop the extension completely, disable it in Chrome's extension manager. Uninstalling removes the extension's local data; disabling it clears temporary session state but can leave the country setting for a later restart.

Use, sharing and support

Insider Beauty’s handling of extension data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

We use the information described above only to provide the extension's beauty-shopping features, respond to support requests and operate or protect the service. We do not sell product-page information, use it for unrelated advertising, or transfer it to data brokers. Our use of data is limited to the extension's disclosed purpose.

If you email us or use our contact form, we receive what you choose to send. Those messages are handled under the website privacy policy. Please leave passwords and payment details out of support messages.

Questions and changes

Contact hello@insiderbeauty.com to ask about this policy or request access, correction or deletion of information you have sent to us. We cannot retrieve local scan results from your browser because they are not uploaded.

We will update this page and its revision date when these practices change. A future version that needs additional website access will use Chrome's permission controls.
