Double Wear vs Maximum Cover: Which Should You Buy?

I'd choose Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place for an all-over base and Maximum Cover for concentrated coverage of a mark or an area of the body. The useful difference is how much coverage you need and where you need it. Buying Maximum Cover simply because you want your usual Double Wear to last longer would miss that distinction.

Start with the area you want to cover
For a whole face, Stay-in-Place offers room to leave some areas lighter and build others. If a small area still needs more coverage, I'd try concealer there before changing the foundation everywhere else.
Maximum Cover earns its place when concealment is the main reason for wearing makeup. Estée Lauder describes it as a formula for the face and body, including covering tattoos, scars and uneven pigmentation. That makes it worth considering for a particular mark on a shoulder or leg as well as on the face.
That does not automatically justify a second full-size foundation. A concealer you already own may cover the area satisfactorily and save another $55.
For an all-over base you like, with one stubborn mark you dislike, these can be separate decisions. You do not need the same level of concealment on every part of your face.
Maximum Cover is not the stronger version of Stay-in-Place

The shared name makes these easy to confuse. Maximum Cover's US page describes a formula with almost 30% pigment. It also lists waterproof coverage and SPF 15. Those details explain its camouflage positioning; they do not establish that it will look better on everyone who currently wears the other Double Wear.
Ask for a sample on the actual area you want to cover. For a facial mark, check whether its edge blends into the surrounding foundation. For a body area, compare the result with the skin that remains uncovered. A convincing match matters more to me than concealing every trace with the first layer.
If your complaint about Stay-in-Place is that it already looks like more makeup than you want, Maximum Cover would be an odd next purchase. I'd first reconsider the amount of foundation, the finish I wanted, or a different product from our foundation shortlist.
Check which Double Wear you are replacing
This comparison uses the current US Stay-in-Place Longwear Matte Foundation with the 36-hour claim. An older bottle or a review of an earlier formula is not a reliable account of how this version will feel on your skin.
Take the old bottle to a counter to compare it with the current product. The full name on the packaging is more useful than asking for “Double Wear” alone.
A familiar shade code would not persuade me to order Maximum Cover without checking it. Compare the shade description and, where possible, swatch the specific formula. That is especially worthwhile if the product will go on a different part of your body from your usual foundation.
Which is better value?
At the checked US brand prices, Maximum Cover costs $3 more for the same labelled size. That is too small a difference to drive my choice between products intended for different coverage needs.
Maximum Cover used occasionally on a specific area may earn its place if your existing makeup cannot cover it satisfactorily. An extra bottle bought because the name sounds more powerful may not.
For a lower-cost all-over alternative, our Double Wear dupe guide is the more relevant next read. Maximum Cover is a separate formula to consider for concealment, rather than the budget pick in that comparison.
Where I'd check before buying
The Maximum Cover listing on Amazon US offers a shade selection. Check availability for your shade and review the seller before comparing the price. A low price on a shade you cannot use is not a useful saving.
For Stay-in-Place, check that the listing identifies the current US Longwear Matte Foundation. Compare the full product name when replacing an older bottle.
Does Maximum Cover last longer than regular Double Wear?
The current US brand claims are 24 hours for Maximum Cover and 36 hours for Stay-in-Place. Those figures do not give us a controlled comparison of the products on the same person. I'd choose by coverage and shade rather than treating either number as a promise of my own wear time.
Can I use Maximum Cover only where I need it?
That is how I would consider it alongside an existing foundation: for a specific concealment job. Check the blend and shade in person before buying a separate bottle for that purpose.
