Makeup Trends 2027: 7 Looks Worth Trying

Our 2027 makeup forecast explains blurred lips, soft-focus skin, colored liner and pearl finishes, with wearable methods and current product examples.

Makeup Trends 2027: 7 Looks Worth Trying

The makeup trends we expect to matter in 2027 are blurred lips, softly powdered skin, expressive eyeliner, pearly finishes and diffused blush. You can try most with products you already own. MAC Powder Kiss Hazy Matte Lipstick illustrates the blurred-lip direction; NYX Epic Wear pencils offer an entry into colored liner. Choose one change first: a different finish is often more useful than replacing your whole makeup bag.

Forecast researched through October 26, 2026. This is an editorial assessment of current search signals, retail data, product formats and Spring 2027 runway reporting. It is not a ranking of future searches or a hands-on product test.

Makeup trends 2027 at a glance

Direction How to try it Product format to look for Main tradeoff
Blurred lips Press color into the center, then soften the edges Soft matte lipstick or stain Less sharply defined than a lined lip
Soft-focus skin Powder selected shiny areas over thin coverage Your existing base and a finely applied powder Too much powder can obscure the finish you wanted
Lip combinations Blend liner inward before adding color or gloss Pencil plus lipstick, balm or gloss More products and touch-ups to manage
Smudged liner Blur a short line close to the upper lashes Blendable eye pencil Less precision; waterproof formulas may set quickly
Colored graphic liner Add one short blue, green or violet accent Eye-safe colored pencil The shape needs checking with your eyes open
Pearl and metallic finishes Put shine on one feature Pearl lipstick or eye shimmer Reflective finishes look different in direct light
Diffused blush Build color gradually, checking the whole face Cream, powder or cream-to-powder blush A pale shade may not show up on deeper skin

What makes these credible 2027 forecasts?

Pinterest's October 2026 report recorded frosted-makeup searches up 286% and blurred-lip searches up 86%, comparing global text searches in July 2026 with July 2025. Those are platform-specific growth rates, not Google search volumes.

Buying behavior supports some of the same directions. Circana's US first-half 2026 report identifies lip liner as prestige makeup's fastest-growing segment, with blush and bronzer also making double-digit gains. Prestige makeup sales rose 3%, while unit demand softened slightly. That favors specific product opportunities over a claim that every makeup category is accelerating.

Vogue's Spring 2027 Paris reporting documented colored liner at Givenchy, reflective eye details at Dior and blurred fuchsia lips at Valentino. Runway appearances support a forecast; they do not measure everyday adoption.

1. Blurred lips with color concentrated in the center

Start with the lipstick you own. Apply a small amount toward the middle of your lips, press them together gently, then use a clean fingertip or lip brush to soften the boundary. Stop before the color spreads past your natural lip line. You want a deliberate fade that still reads as lipstick.

MAC Powder Kiss Hazy Matte Lipstick is a current example of a formula sold for this effect. MAC suggests blending it into the center for an ombré application. That makes it a relevant option, not evidence that it outperforms a lipstick already in your drawer.

Pick a shade deep enough to remain visible after blending. If your lips have a naturally darker border, decide whether you want to retain that definition.

The compromise is precision. If a crisp red lip is what you enjoy, keep it. A blurred edge is another application choice, not a requirement to make every lipstick look unfinished.

2. Soft-focus skin with selective powder

Treat “cloud skin” as a finish brief: softly diffused areas with some natural reflection left elsewhere. It does not require a new foundation, and it does not promise to erase pores or skin texture.

Apply your usual coverage in a thin layer, then look at your face near a window. Press a small amount of powder where the shine distracts you, perhaps beside the nose or through the center of the forehead. Leave areas alone when you like how they look. Check again after blush and bronzer rather than adding powder automatically at every stage.

Keep coverage where you want it and vary the finish with powder placement. Avoid repeatedly dusting dry-looking patches simply because another part of your face is shiny.

3. Lip combinations that make the outline intentional

Liner, lipstick and gloss serve different purposes. Choose the effect before buying another combination. A pencil close to your natural lip color gives subtle definition; a deeper pencil creates a visible frame. A gloss adds reflection but will change how sharply the underlying edges read.

For an easier starting point, trace your natural lip border and blend the pencil a little inward. Add the second product across the middle, then inspect the join. A hard band is fine if that is the design; soften it if you wanted a gradual transition.

Long-wear stains are another branch of this interest. Spate's September 2025 analysis recorded 13,500 average monthly Google searches for peel-off lip stains. That historical estimate is a reason to investigate the format, not proof of its present volume or a guarantee that a stain will wear well on your lips.

Before choosing a stain, read the application and removal directions. If frequent color changes matter more than longevity, a conventional pencil and lipstick may suit your routine better.

4. Soft grunge eyeliner with a controlled edge

Keep the first version small. Draw a short brown or charcoal line close to your upper lashes, then soften it with a clean small brush while the formula is still workable. Look straight ahead before extending the outer corner. You can add a second pass if the first disappears when your eyes are open.

This gives you a way to try the look without committing to a full smoky eye. Leaving the lower lash line bare is a useful option when you want less visual weight.

Check the pencil's instructions before choosing it for blending. Some waterproof liners set firmly, so work on one eye at a time. Keep a clean brush available instead of repeatedly drawing over a line that has already become too thick.

5. Colored eyeliner as a single deliberate detail

Try a short cobalt flick with your usual mascara, or a thin green line along the outer part of your upper lashes. Keep the first shape simple enough to repeat. Take a straight-on photo with your eyes open before deciding it needs to be larger.

NYX Epic Wear Waterproof Eyeliner Stick offers matte and metallic colored options. Pick the actual finish you want; a metallic pencil will not produce the same visual result as an opaque matte blue.

Blue also has a separate forecasting signal: WGSN and Coloro named Luminous Blue their 2027 color of the year. This is a design forecast, not a ranking of eyeliner sales. We would use it as permission to consider a blue accent, not an instruction to buy an entire blue palette.

Use cosmetics specifically intended for the eye area. The FDA's eye-cosmetic guidance warns against using lip liner as eyeliner and advises stopping products that cause irritation.

6. Frosted lips and reflective eyes

Choose one surface to catch the light. A pearl lipstick with your ordinary eye makeup is an easier starting point than combining reflective lips, cheeks and lids at once.

MAC Frost Lipstick is a current pearlescent option. Compare the color underneath the pearl as carefully as the shine: a brown-based shade and a pale pink can give very different results even within the same finish family. Swatches on lips similar in tone to yours are more useful than a product photograph alone.

For eyes, try a small amount of an eye-safe shimmer on the lid and check it in daylight. A close-up image lit directly from the front can make reflective particles appear more prominent than they will in your usual surroundings. Decide whether you want a subtle sheen or a visible metallic accent before choosing a product.

7. Blush with softer edges and enough color

Choose a shade you can actually see before worrying about a fashionable color name. A pale dusty pink may read differently on fair and deep complexions; a richer rose, berry or plum might give the latter the softness you wanted without disappearing.

Start with a small amount where you want the color strongest, then blend the outside edge with a clean brush or fingertip. Check both cheeks together. Add a second light layer only where needed, rather than extending the whole blush area each time.

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Matte Bouncy Blush illustrates the cream-to-powder approach. Its official range includes rose, raspberry, violet and berry options. Those are format and shade references; we have not compared their wear on different skin types.

If you already like a powder or cream blush, change the placement first. A new texture is worth considering when the one you own is difficult to blend or gives a finish you dislike.

Which trend should you try first?

Choose the one that changes the smallest part of your routine. For a five-minute face, try a softened lipstick edge. For someone who already wears black liner, swap one application for blue. If you prefer natural makeup, concentrate on selective powder and blush placement.

Set a one-product limit for the experiment. Photograph the result in normal daylight, wear it through an ordinary day, and note the specific problem before buying something else: disappearing color, a difficult edge, unwanted shine or a shade mismatch. That gives your next purchase a purpose.

You can also repeat a color in your manicure; our 2027 nail trends guide explains the different finishes.

Frequently asked questions

Is natural makeup going out of style in 2027?

Our forecast includes natural-looking makeup alongside stronger accents. You can keep your usual base and add one new detail. There is no reason to replace a routine you like because a runway look is more dramatic.

What makeup colors should I watch for 2027?

Blue is worth watching because of the Coloro/WGSN forecast. For everyday buying, choose the depth and undertone that work with your existing makeup rather than treating one exact blue, pink or brown as compulsory.

What is the easiest 2027 makeup trend to try cheaply?

Blurred lips are a useful first experiment because the method may work with a lipstick you already own. Adjusting powder placement or softening an existing eye pencil can also change a look without buying a new set of products.

Are these the most searched makeup trends of 2027?

No. They are our forecasts based on evidence available by October 26, 2026. Search growth, product sales and runway appearances answer different questions, and none can establish future search rankings.
